Jennifer Sade
Clinical Psychologist

Sunday, October 1, 2006

Jennifer Sade, 53, beloved wife of Wayne Hulehan and devoted mother of Evan Hulehan, died Sunday, October 1, 2006, at home in Alexandria, Virginia.

Born in Washington, DC, she was the daughter of Carol Himes Sade and the late Leo Sade.  Jenny was an exemplary student, graduating with distinction from Holton-Arms School in 1971 and Cornell University in 1975.  In 1986 she received a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from The Catholic University of America, where she was both well-loved and respected by her fellow graduate students.

Dr. Sade was a clinical psychologist in private practice for twenty years. She continued to see patients up until one month before her death.

Whether as a friend, counselor, or professional psychotherapist, Jenny was helpful to a great number of people in the Washington area, especially children and their families and people with many other difficult life circumstances.

She was known as a determined tennis player and, later in life, an avid bridge player.  With her wry sense of humor, she appreciated the ironies and complexities of life.  Her many friends relied on her quiet thoughtful wisdom and her steady presence.

Jenny was first diagnosed with Leiomyosarcoma in 1999. Leiomyosarcoma is a form of cancer so rare that fewer than 5 people in a million are diagnosed with it.  Because it is so uncommon, there is very little research for this disease, and few opportunities for participation in clinical trials.  Like many cancers there is presently no known cure for Leiomyosarcoma.  With the support of her husband, and a large circle of friends and family, Jenny fought cancer valiantly for the last seven years, staying very involved in life until the very end.  Jenny was determined to fight her disease for the sake of her young son and husband.  She never gave up.

In addition to her husband and son, survivors include her mother, Carol, of Bethesda, Maryland; a sister, Judy McDermott, of Columbia, Maryland; and a brother, Jonathan Sade, of Washington, DC.  She was preceded in death by her father, Leo Sade.  She attended Baptist Temple Church in Alexandria, VA.

The family received friends on Wednesday, October 4th, from 6:00 - 9:00 pm at Baptist Temple Church, 700 Commonwealth Avenue, Alexandria, VA. The funeral service was at 1:00 on Thursday, October 5th at Baptist Temple Church (see Funeral Service).  Following the service Jenny was laid to rest at Ivy Hill Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to Jennifer Sade Trust, 809 S. Overlook Drive, Alexandria, VA or The Leiomyosarcoma Foundation, 129 Hawkins Road, Maryland, NY 12116.
